Sleep Innovations is an industry leader in top-of-the-line support pillows. Their memory foam pillow is excellent for preventing neck pain, because it has a special shape designed to cradle the head and neck, giving it a more comfortable feel no matter what your preferred sleep position is. The Contour Memory Foam Pillow has a recessed center that allows side sleepers to keep their heads in line with their spine, and also gives stomach sleepers the ability to lay with their face on the pillow without pressure from the filling blocking airways or making their skin hot. Back sleepers avoid having their neck curved and chin forced downward, a position that is ripe for pain in the morning, because the Contour Memory Foam Pillow has a curve that keeps the head form being pushed up and forward.

Degenerative changes in a fibroid: fibroids are non-cancerous growths which can occur in your womb. They are common and usually cause no symptoms. However, they can sometimes cause heavy periods, abdominal swelling and urinary problems. Rarely, the fibroid outgrows its supply. This can make it shrink (degenerate) which can be very painful. See separate leaflet called Fibroids for more details.

The Nayoya Acupressure Mat has 6,210 acupressure points that press against the body. These acupressure points increase blood flow to knots and sore muscles in your back, helping to reduce inflammation and pain instantly while releasing endorphins. Endorphins are known as the ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters of the body and are part of the body’s natural way to alleviate pain. When released, endorphins interact with receptors to reduce pain, anxiety and stress while providing a sense of calm, relaxed, euphoric pleasure.
Further, sunlight contains vitamin D, which is required for strong bones, including the spinal column, and is manufactured in the body through sun exposure. Try to spend 10 to 20 minutes in sunlight daily.
This restorative and pain management treatment program for neck and back pain is the most effective, NON-SURGICAL solution to back and neck pain. The Disc Rehydration Spinal Decompression Program utilizes a one-of-a-kind combination of spinal decompression and UN-WEIGHTED traction to help rehydrate and take pressure off of the disc complex. The Disc Rehydration Spinal Decompression Program allows for natural, non-surgical healing of the intervertebral disc complex in all THREE body positions: standing, seated and supine (lying down). In addition, the core supporting muscles are strengthened through our physical rehab protocol and existing muscle tension is relieved through massage therapy. This one of a kind back and neck pain therapy allows for maximal therapeutic relief of back and neck pain.
Back and neck pain are sometimes even linked together. As both areas rely on the spinal cord to sense nerves and provide structural support, pain in one area could easily lead to symptoms in the other. Spinal stenosis, or narrowing of the spine, can create enough compression on the spinal nerves to the point where neck pains can be sensed.
Overall, studies have shown that spinal manipulation is one of several options—including exercise, massage, and physical therapy—that can provide mild-to-moderate relief from low-back pain. Spinal manipulation also appears to work as well as conventional treatments such as applying heat, using a firm mattress, and taking pain-relieving medications.
Scoliosis, depicted on the left side, is a sideways curve that usually affects the thoracic (mid back) and/or lumbar (low back) spine. Abnormal kyphosis can be progressive causing a hunchback deformity.
Injecting cells to regenerate spine discs – scientists from Duke University, North Carolina, developed new biomaterials that can deliver a booster shot of reparative cells to the nucleus pulposus, effectively eliminating pain caused by degenerative disc disease.

Nerve blocks and steroid shots. The nerve block that your doctor might do to diagnose your condition can be a short-term treatment, too. It may take two to three shots over several weeks to get control of your pain. It’s not uncommon for the problem to return at some point and to need another series of injections.

Performing a new activity. Putting any muscle through a new type of activity that is somewhat strenuous makes it more susceptible to strain, including in the neck. For instance, athletes are more susceptible to muscle strains at the beginning of a training season.1
Bending your back initially is unavoidable, but when you bend your back try not to stoop or squat, and be sure to tighten your stomach muscles so that your pelvis is pulled in. Most important, do not straighten your legs before lifting; otherwise you will be using your back for most of the work.

Ovulation: ovulation means producing an egg from your ovary. Some women develop a sharp pain when an egg is released. This ovulation pain is called “Mittelschmerz” (middle pain – because it occurs mid-cycle). The pain may be on a different side each month, depending on which ovary releases the egg. This pain only lasts a few hours but some women find it is severe.
Most cases of back pain are due to sprain, strain, muscle spasm, and/or intervertebral disc degeneration. These types of pain can be difficult to bear, but the good news is that they generally get better with conservative (non-surgical) treatment: medication, physical therapy, heat or cold packs, etc.
If your neck pain is severe and comes on quickly without any obvious trauma and also involves a severe headache, high fever, confusion and nausea, then seek medical care immediately because you may have a spinal infection such as meningitis.
Don’t medically investigate back pain until it’s met at least three criteria: (1) it’s been bothering you for more than about 6 weeks; (2) it’s severe and/or not improving, or actually getting worse; and (3) there’s at least one other “red flag” (age over 55 or under 20, painful to light tapping, fever/malaise, weight loss, slow urination, incontinence, groin numbness, a dragging toe, or symptoms in both legs like numbness and/or tingling and/or weakness).
